IM Laboratory is Custom’s Inspection Body. It operates in accordance with Italian Decree No. 93 of April 21, 2017, and has drawn up “Regulation R1 for regular checking of weighing instruments” according to Standard UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012.
Regulation R1 can be used by metric instrument owners who wish to avail themselves of IM Laboratory to regularly check their instruments. Regulation R1 sets out the duties and responsibilities of both the Inspection Body and the instrument owner, and establishes the general terms and conditions of the contract.

Regular checking of weighing instruments
Regular checking is the legal regular metrological control carried out on weighing instruments after they have been put into service, or following repair for any reason involving the removal of protective seals, including electronic seals.
There is an obligation to regularly check all weighing instruments used in the course of business or otherwise used for measurements that need to be attested in relation to third parties. According to most recent legal provisions, measuring instruments need to be regularly checked in accordance with Annex IV of applicable law, and in any case no later than what is defined in Art. 4, Paragraph 3 of Italian Decree No. 93, of April 21, 2017, from the date of submission of the notification that the instrument has been put into service; forwarded to the relevant Chamber of Commerce and every three years thereafter until a notification of disposal is submitted.
Periodic checking must be requested by the Instrument Owner, either by the individual or legal entity holding ownership of the measuring instrument or who, in another capacity, is responsible for the measurement activity, from an ACCREDIA-accredited Inspection Body.
